Purple Souled folks have their hearts pumping with the potential of a 2-0 start after a miserable 3-13 season when their Horn Helmeted Warriors travel to Indianapolis to confront the horse-shoe hatted Colts. Second-year QB Christian Pondler found his bearings after a miserable start and guided the Vikings to an impressive if not convincing 23-20 overtime victory over the high-powered Jaguars in week #1.
Expect Colts rookie QB to exploit a still out-manned Vikings secondary, and 41-year-old Reggie Wayne to emerge from his casket to catch 9 balls for 135 yards and a score. Donald Brown and Vic Pollard will combine to rush for 140 yards, leaving Vikings fans chasing to their fantasy football notebooks to see how they missed on Pollard and whether he’s worth a waiver wire claim.
Pondler will fall victim to an energetic Colts crowd and struggle as his wide receiver’s struggle to gain any separation continues, even against a less-than-stellar Colts defense. He’ll finish 17 of 37 for 179 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT.
Colts 27, Vikings 16. Key stats – Colts 9 of 15 on 3rd down. Vikings 3 false starts and 1 illegal motion penalty, at least two of which take them out of a manageable third down situation and set up third and long.
