“Hi” to the Wanns… what a fine friendly bunch!

Eucharistic Celebration is at 5 pm on Saturday, February 3rd here in St. Thomas.
Weekday masses are at 9 am. On Tuesday mass was for Kenneth Rutt and on Thursday mass is for Members of the LAOH of St. Thomas.

Services for Gary Macho were held on Tuesday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Prior Lake. Our sympathies to his family. His sisters are Kathleen Kilduff and Judy Connelly, Warren’s wife.

Anastasia “Babe” Sery, the grand Irish lady from Montgomery, that many of us from this Irish community had the privilege of knowing, has been laid to rest. She was well known and well respected for her many contributions to society and the communities. Babe will also be remembered for her warm heart, thoughtfulness, her grace, wit and charm…a wonderful woman.

(Whoops) Last week, Aggie Gill joined Bertha Meger, not Gert Meger, on a trip with Bertha’s daughters, Eileen, Gloria and Rita to see Bev, another one of Bertha’s daughters at Apache Junction, (Sorry, Gert was on my mind.)

Cora Jean Nelson, daughter of Jacob and Lindsay of New Prague was baptized, Sunday Jan 21, at St. Wenceslaus Church. Godparents are Jared Nelson and Courtney Stasney of Duluth. Grandparents are Jack and Patty Stasney of Jordan, and David and Bette Jayne Nelson, of Barnum. Great- grandparents are John and Rita Stasney of Montgomery, Richard and Beverly Nelson of Barnum and Larraine O’Connell of St.Thomas. Cora’s big sister is Sofia, who’s two years old. Annie Burns, a student of River Falls College in Wisconsin, left Thursday morning with her class, to study in Europe for three months. Last year, Annie and her sister, Meghan, were in Europe together with their class. Annie will be home May 1.

Friends and family members of Corey and Mara Vlasak gathered for a reception Friday, January 26th at Turtles in Shakopee. The Jack and Vangie Burns families from here attended the celebration. The happy couple was married in Las Vegas on Dec. 9th.

The Card-O-Rama Card Club met Monday afternoon at Jeanne Plonski’s home. Ann Koenig, Sally Raleigh, Dorothy Kocina, Betty and Marian Halloran, Arvella Sirek, and Pat Glisczinski make up the sociable group.

On Saturday, Bob and Becky Block, Richard and Loretta O'Connell, and other family and friends, helped Owen Block celebrate his 3rd birthday. Owen, the son of Corey and Alyssa (Smisek) Block of Le Center, turned 3 on January 24. Owen had this to say...."I'm not two anymore!” (Thanks, Becky)

Connie and Julie Odenthal, and his brother, Donald and Penny Odenthal, from Brooklyn Park are home after a winter break to Mesa, Arizona to see the Odenthal’s, Joe and Carol, Francis and Geraldine and the Thomas Illg’s of Heidelberg. Connie’s and Donald’s also enjoyed a visit with nephew Nathan Olson, who lives in Mesa.

Congratulations to our New Prague St. Thomas Honor Students; Seniors Anna Connelly, Jim and Corrine’s, Rita Halloran is Bruce and Cathy’s, Justin Meger is Rick and Lori’s, Tanya Halloran is Terrence and Dawn’s, Juniors Libby Russell is Dave and Theresa’s, and Lindsey Rybak is Jean’s granddaughter, freshman Steven Halloran is Eddie and Denise’s. Keep up the good work! You’re makin’ us proud, one, two and no generations from St.Thomas. Did you see her? Bonnie Callahan is a celebrity! She was pictured in the Star Tribune, dated Jan. 26th. It includes an article about All Paper Recycling Inc., a company where Bonnie is employed.

From the archives: “Michael S. Sullivan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. J. Sullivan enlisted in the Air Force Delayed Enlistment Program. He is slated to begin 4 years of active duty with the Air Force in June. He will attend six weeks of basic military training at Lakeland Military Training Center, San Antonio, Texas. He will be receiving training in a mechanical career. He will graduate from Le Center High School in May.” NPT Jan.13, 1977.

Also, From the Archives. “Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Retka, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Retka, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hanlon, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Sullivan and Greg O’Connell attended the reception and dance to honor Alma Simpson, who served as secretary of the DFL party in Se Sueur County for many years and Jerome Schleis of Montgomery, who served as DFL County Treasurer for sixteen years. It was held at the Legion Clubroom in Montgomery January 15th.” NPT Jan. 20, 1977
