Eucharistic Celebration is at 5 pm in St. Thomas on Saturday, January 20. Weekday masses are at 9 am. On Tuesday, mass was offered for Leona Mager and Thursday mass is for Mary Kay Halloran. Also, a mass for Edwin and LaVerne Harms was offered at St.Scholastica on Tuesday at St. Scholastica

Patty Sullivan, her husband Joe Eischens and their 2 kids from Parkville, MO, a suburb of Kansas City were here to attend the wedding of Patty's nephew Dale Ely and Alisha Baldwin at Coon Rapids on Saturday, January 13. The Jim Sullivan family, the Brent and Molly Olson family, Mike Sullivan and Jenny Wolf and Maxine Sullivan and her mother Sally Traxler from Le Sueur also attended. Dale is the son of Laurie Sullivan.

A Steak Fry Fun Night was held for the Le Sueur County Snowmobile Trails at the American Legion in Le Center on Saturday evening. Auction and prizes were included. Dan O’Connell and Ryan Halloran, from St. Thomas, fried steaks and did a superb job. Chuck Retka ended up with a red spearfishing decoy he thought might make a good gift for someone.

Did you see him? Page 38 of the The Farmer, January 2007 edition, Chuck Retka is featured in an article titled “Minnesota Farmer Benefits from Technology.” It mentioned the rootworm problem Chuck and other farmers in the area were having and how Chuck combated the problem on his farm. (Tryin’ not to sound like a commercial but…) Dekalb is one of the seed brands they plant. The information was provided by Dekalb and Chuck is a third generation Dekalb user. Chuck’s dad, Jerry, and grandfather, Bernard were Dekalb users. A good picture of Chuck accompanied the article; although he usually doesn’t look that serious.

Members of Kelly Koller’s family and other young folks, one and two generations from St. Thomas, gathered at The Bar in Le Sueur to celebrate Kelly’s 21st birthday. Kelly is a student at the Minnesota State University, Mankato and is taking Business Marketing. Many made good use of the Karaoke entertainment provided and all had a good time. Kelly is the granddaughter of Jack and Vangie Burns.

The Le Center 2007 St. Patrick’s Day Grand Marshals have been announced! Ron and Patty Collins Germscheid of Le Center, Ron is the Le Sueur County auditor and Patty is a teacher in Belle Plaine. (Thanks you, Kenny)

Happy Birthday, Orrin! January 18th, Orrin Retka turns 71!

The United States President announced Wednesday night that the 34th Infantry Division sent to Iraq last March will have their deployment extended beyond this March. This includes Tim O’Connell. Tim’s dad, Kenny, said they’ve talked to Tim and Tim’s attitude is “It’s part of the job, goes with the territory.” Kenny went on to say “Tim didn’t seem upset with this, but he wasn’t happy. We’re more upset on this end. We were looking forward to seeing him in a few short weeks…and now it’s not gonna happen” No one knows for how long “Might even be mid-July” before they see their son. Tim came home last July 13th for two fast weeks. However long this tour takes, it won’t be soon enough for Kenny and Debbie O.

Have a good week, folks.

Hmmm. Was this the karaoke entertainment?
