Many friends and acquaintances from St. Thomas and Le Sueur attended services for Russell Ronayne. Russell passed away on November 7 after fighting a courageous battle with leukemia. He was ‘laid to rest’ Friday, November 10th after Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hopkins. Russell is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, the former Patricia Huberty, and their children, a son, Dan and his wife, Kim, and a daughter, Pam. Russell is also survived by two grandchildren, Cory and Alexa, and his sister, Marge and her husband, Don Lammers. One of three children of Cornelius “Neil” (1891-1961) and Alice Burns (1898-1980) Ronayne, Russell grew up on a farm-site (long gone), between County Roads 11 and 33 on CR 156, a half a mile west of the REA substation. “He was a nice man and his ties to St. Thomas were strong. He came home to St. Thomas for many wakes and funeral services over the years. His wake and funeral was a joyous occasion where many enjoyed gathering and visiting”. Russell Ronayne was 79. One of St. Thomas’s tragic stories was when Russell lost his brother, Robert (1921-1935) in an accident while Robert was cleaning his gun on the Pat Burns farm.

Erik O’Connell shot his first deer this week-end near Randy Karels’s wooded area. Erik’s brother, Brent, Bret Simon and Bret’s dad, Mike Simon were part of the hunting party. Ryan Halloran assisted in prepping the deer. (He’s an old hand at it. Last week-end, after hunting with the Halloran hunting crew and getting a deer himself…Ryan hit one on the way home … He had a nice pick-up).

Dr. Tim Halloran was in the area on business recently, not doctor business, a little farm business with Jim Oak.

Molly Sullivan, Todd and Peggy’s daughter, celebrated her golden birthday on Saturday evening with about 20 young folks present. They enjoyed the evening playing “Dance, Dance, Revolution” (That new dance on the mats craze that’s sweeping the country) and Amanda Murphy, of Murphy’s corner, broke the piñata after many attempts were made. . All had a good time! Molly’s real birthday is on November 14th. Many more memorable Happy Birthdays to you, Molly!

Jack and Vangie Burns celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary at home together on Thursday, November 9th, and later Vangie joined the ladies in the card club; Helen Koktavy, Catherine and Jan Retka, Dorothy and Jan Shaughnessy, Bernadette Engle, Harriett Wagner, Katie Denzer and Marie Hayden at the Praha Haus for dinner. (Thanks, Mom)

If you think the St. Thomas news is good…You oughta hear what St. Thomas folks won’t let go to print! Have a good one...
