1987 graduates--we're beginning to plan our 20th reunion. Oh my gosh, I can't even believe I'm saying that. 20 years! Urghhh...anyway, we've got a couple ideas together but we really need to get an idea for participation as to how many will attend, etc. Please contact us either through this venue or a classmates email address.

Right on Jodi! For example, I'm amazed that people still packed Charlies on Saturday of Kraut Days, even with SEKS in the park!

Hey V,
Yeah, makes it interesting when you just walk into a bar and someone picks a fight with you when they are talking about stuff from 20 years ago.

You can't be considered a "true Hendersonite" unless you can carry a grudge for two or three generations.

Maybe Charlie should hire a bouncer, just for Kraut days.

Idea 2:

Interesting how a non-member of the class has ideas for our reunion. Love the slide show, etc. Skip the dinner--we need to get a buzz and keep it! Ha! More ideas???

Jodi: Jeff's just fishing for business for BitterSweet and himself. I can make the video/slideshow for next to nothing out of the pure love of my fellow classmates with a nominal fee for copies on DVD.

I really like the slideshow idea but I'm not sold on the actual dinner. We've already done that and it was ok. I don't know, I guess we could really use some feedback from other classmates.

Hi Vic and Jodi!! I see we are making a lot of progress here. What happened to the cabin idea? I liked that one! If people are not interested in going away for a weekend..what about doing something closer to Henderson at a lake? There are some nice lakes around Mankato. Cedar Lake in New Prague isn't the nicest, but they have a park that we could check into renting?..and there is golf nearby for those that want to golf? Just a suggestion. Hope you are both doing great!

Or...I have a better idea..since this is the big 20 year, what if we all went to Vegas!!! Those that want to come great, those that can't, fine..we could do a Charlie's Bar thing for those that can't make it!

or we could revive our class trip and take a bus down to Holiday Inn on Nicollet Avenue. Fill stereo speakers with booze, have ostrich fights in the pool, and show up smashed to Chanhassen Dinner Theater! : )

The cabin idea got thrown out b/c of cost and being able to get away for some people. Vegas sounds great but there again, it would only be a chosen few. My only concern is that if we're going to "book" something, we really need to do it now.

Of course you're one of the "chosen" ones. You were also the chosen one to rip up my pictures of you during the class trip when you were wasted! Anyway, I'd really like some serious feedback PEOPLE!! Urgh...this is getting frustrating!

Sounds like we'll be doing the same old thing. A party locally or maybe a bus to bar hop. Either way, more information will follow closer to May of 2007.

If you really want some specific ideas...here goes...
First: I think it would be nice to a have a "traditional, small town" catered buffet dinner...fried chicken, ham mashed potatoes, etc...the kind of food that was always served at weddings, school proms etc. I haven't had that kind of meal since the last wedding reception I attended in Henderson.
Second: I think we should have a DJ playing all 80's music and invite graduates from at least the classes of '86 and '88 to attend...heck maybe even the classes of '85 and '89 too. The truth is with Henderson being such a small high school we all had friendships (some frendlier than others if ya know what I mean) with people in these classes and we have not seen them in years.
Thirdly: I think it would be nice to invite our former teachers and school staff.
I think a reunion should be held in our hometown. Many of don't get there as often as we should. Personally I don't have an interest in the cabin/resort idea. I realize that I am fortunate enough to have access during the summer to a lake/cabin and that kind of makes it less appealing to me.
Hope that helps....should we form a "committee" to meet sometime this fall and throw around ideas and crunch some numbers?
Go Johnnies!

Velocity-good ideas.....if you want to include other classes, I'm sure I could scrounge up some of the class of 88. I'm not sure if my Black Rage t-shirt quite fits anymore though.

Sounds good. There's your committe..Vic, Mike, go for it. Every five years it's the same people putting their heads together to put this reunion together. Everyone has an opinion but for some reason they're not willing to help put it together and as soon as it's not something they want to do, they complain about it.

Actually, we may as well just celebrate during Sauerkraut Days 2007. Most people from other classes are around that weekend anyway. Just like we did for our 15th year class reunion.

Start gathering and or scanning any pictures and or video footage...you have from grade school up through high school so that I can make a little audio/video montage! (yes I know that I destroyed Jodi's class trip pictures...at least she has the negatives right!)

Hi Everyone, I think Velocity has some great ideas. I have been to some of my husbands class reunions in Montgomery and they have had them at country clubs and such. It's not the atmosphere they are use to. Alot of them would perfer a simple meal and a DJ nothing special. I agree also with Techkee, I think some of the class of 88 would go too. Maybe even make it a decade reunion of 80's. Now that would be interesting. Anyway I think you guys have some great ideas and are planning early.
I really like this website. It nice to hear how people are in Henderson and know what is going on.

Vic, fortunately for you, I do not save my negatives. I wouldn't resurrect them even if I did because I wouldn't want to upset you. I say we do karaoke. Since I've been "removed" from the committee, my input my not matter.

Who "removed" you from the committe? I don't recall a "coup" of any sort. You are more than welcome to be on a or the committee. In fact I'll buy you a drink when and if the committee does meet.
I by the way have negatives dating back 20-30 years. In the days before digital cameras it they were what people used to get duplicate pictures.

I'm willing to help out too. Sorry, I haven't logged on for a while. I like your idea Vic. My sister told me that they have NEVER had a class reunion. Probably because she comes from the same class of boys who voted Juke Box Hero as the theme song for the 7th and 8th Grade Dance. I would love to see the other classes for sure! Great idea. If you have a committee, you should invite other classes to be represented. PEACE OUT!

Hey everyone,
Mike Kolter was the president of the class of 89 according to Debbie and she volunteers Mike to get the class of 89 together for this:) Mike, Debbie says that your math problem was stupid! But she still loves you:)
Anyway I do think getting the other classes together would be a great idea!

Anybody interested in a dodgeball/trench/pin-guard and/or kickball tournament? Each class from say 1985-1989 could field teams. Could we get gym time @ Hilltop?

As a memeber of the class of 1984 and one of it's class officers also I would like to say that an all 80's reunion would be great! I've spoken with some from our class and the concensus is total agreement. Let me know if there's need for help.

So what's the concensu? Put together a 11 class reunion? 1980 - 1990? Host a '80s dance at the Brass Top (prom dresses and tuxes included)? Schedule it for May (or sometime before summer)?

My personal opinion is to include the other 80's classes, (and 90) if we can get a couple "representatives" from each year to set up as a committee and plan just what you've suggested Jeff. I think the 80's dance with the dresses and tuxes is a GREAT idea and May is also. Most of us graduated the end of May, right? We could rent the Brass Top Hall, get a DJ or band, have a dinner, etc and somehow charge per person/couple. Great ideas! Let's get some more response and see what others think and try to form a committee soon so we can get dates in place. I volunteer to be one of the reps for 87 and I'm sure Mary Engle-Murphy would love to be my partner!!!

We'll stay in touch. October is very busy for me. Maybe we could set up a meeting in November.
Email Jodi or Jeff to be included in this planning committee.

I kind of had in mind doing a class of '87 reunion but then inviting other classes of the 80's decade to join us for some other activities. I was thinking maybe a dinner for the class of '87 followed by an 80's dance/prom. Get a good DJ that will play lots of bad 80's music...maybe some karaoke???

I think that doing this as a group effort will be a good idea and hopefully a good turn out. The 3 times we've had our reunions, we've had an OK turn out but I think it would be really fun for everyone to join in. More ideas, suggestions, etc. Jeff, we'll talk in November for sure. Anyone with ideas, please email us.

Glad to meet Jodi. We should try to find a delegate from each class that could meet with us "or at least be involved".
We'll have to start with a date and a precise contact list.
