The scheduled headlining of Minnesota's Prince at this weekend's Super Bowl halftime show brings up memories of "Purple Rain," and the sequence in that movie that was filmed on a stretch of the Minnesota River, was it just north of town? In Jessenland? Does anyone know the exact location? Or have any firsthand recollections of the event? Was it in the mid- to late-1980s? Prince has held "center stage" longer than I ever expected he would. Perhaps longer than he expected.

Actually it was east of town. They did some filming by the creek down from the old elevator, down from where the Evans's lived. My sister lived their at the time. some filming was also done on the road across from 19, Buckhorn trail.

Can't wait to see prince perform at half time! Am I the only one who still thinks that Prince is #1? I saw purple rain when I was in 6th grade at the lesueur theater-my mom took me.People think I'm crazy , but he is the best!Anyone agree?

Sorry Nik, we all know Johnny Cash is #1. Don't know if he was ever in Henderson, but he stopped at an antique store in Belle Plaine.

You got that right, nothing like some Johnny Cash. I hear Vegas has 10 to 1 odds that Prince will lose his balance, seriously.

Prince was solid and then rain coming down added cool dimension...actually I think it was the first NFL halftime show I ever watched. I really thought Billy Joel kicked ass on the anthem.
It would of been nice though to hear some of this at the Super Bowl:
I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime But is there because he's a victim of the times
I wear the black for those who never read Or listened to the words that jesus said About the road to happiness through love and charity Why, you'd think he's talking straight to you and me
Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back Up front there ought 'a be a man in black
I wear it for the sick and lonely old For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been Each week we lose a hundred fine young men
Go Johnnies!

I'll give Prince a 5 out of 5 stars. He still has the voice, the moves, and can still play the guitar. The halftime show was far better than the pregame show!

Really good show. Kinda weird he pulled out a Foo Fighters tune though. Quite the talented man he is. As far as the movie goes, the scene where Apollonia (sp) purified herself in "Lake Minnetonka" was filmed at the river by the railroad tressel just down the road from Boehne's. One school morning two big trench coat wearin' security guards picked Tracey and I up at the house cuz they weren't allowing the buses through at that time. They drove us through to the other side where the bus was waiting just past the old Radunz house. Man did we feel special. A bit freaked out too. Nothing but rental trucks and semis on either side of the road for a quarter mile.

I was surprised they could pull it all off in the rain...it had to be kind of dangerous with all the electrical equipment, etc...the stage was completely full of water.

It was great. I thought for sure he would not perform in the rain. One of the best half time shows in a long time. It sure beats Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson!

I liked the lightening at the beginning of the half-time show! I too thought there is no way he is going to perform in the rain, but he did MN proud!

It was ok. At first I thought it was Florence from The Jeffersons up there. He should have kept going with All Along The Watchtower.
I'd like to see some obscure talent like The Blind Boys From Alabama at halftime. Am I right Skeddy?

Florence from the Jeffersons, that $h!^ is just funny, man. Laugh out loud funny. I thought it was great. Not a huge fan of Prince's music but have always admired his talent, and he ripped it up. Velocity, what is your lyrical reference above? Is that a Prince tune? John Cash? Doesn't look like a Bono ramble. Arlo Guthrie? Jimmy Cliff?

I'm thinking either Woody Guthrie, Tiny Tim or Tupac.

Yes the Blind Boys indeed! Especially the guy who looked like Kirby Puckett and kept wandering.

Did anyone catch Prince's phallic display behind the sheet during the show? http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/
