Motley Crue, Cheap Trick/Kato Wireless Center/'97? 3. Lynch Mob/Mirage/'91? 4. Willie Nelson/WeFest-Detroit Lakes/'99? 5. Blue Ringers/HFD Dance-Charlie's/'04

Skeddy air jamming to For Whom the Bell Tolls - His bedroom 1986 (not the time his mom busted him using the tennis racket for a guitar).

Couldn't remember the name of the place in Green Isle where Sherwin played: Rustic Inn, now the Gray Fox; Buelah was the manager. Maybe the SEKS/Dave Osterman birthday party should rank #1 Then there's John "Coconut" Beseke performing at Antique Ag Days 1977.

1. John Mellencamp (3 times) 2. The Chieftains (2 times) 3. The Wailers 4. Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers 5. SHAW (a couple times….once was just not enough)
I saw Brian Setzer (of Stray Cats) perform solo once. He opened for George Thorogood…I was really not interested in seeing Brian Setzer but he was amazing.

1. One of the 24 Bob Dylan shows I've been to. I can't remember half of them. They all moved me. 2. Page/Plant '98 3. John Paul Jones at the Cabooze '99. He looked at me and nodded, thereby acknowledging my presence on this planet. Do I sound like a Zeppelin fanatic yet? 4. Phish (seen them a couple of times, can't remember those either). Three hours of jamming, best people-watching opportunity ever. 5. Radiohead and the Beta Band 2001, Downtown Chicago. 6. If I may add another, It would have to be Jack Norton and the Mullet River Boys, 2005, Montgomery Opera House. Henderson needs a performance space like that!

Oh by the way Tom, I'm insanely jealous of your Roy Acuff show. Man, if I could have a time machine... Let's see: Woody Guthrie, The Carter Family, young Bob Dylan, Ledbelly, The Doors, Johnny Cash at a prison, I'd see them all!

1. The Rolling Stones with opening act Stray Cats 1981 or 1982. (It was supposed to be their farewell tour!) 2. The Chieftans - early 90's 3. Peter, Paul & Mary - Rochester, late 80's 4. Amy Grant with Michael W. Smith - late 80's 5. Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Carman, and many, many others at SpiritFest in the 90's - twice. (SpiritFest was held at the same place as WeFest, but security said they always liked our group better! ) Also on my list: Michael Johnson many times in St. Joseph, Amy Grant in Collegeville, Johnny Cash at the Carlton Celebrity Room, and Bobby Vee and friends at Rockin' Round the Clock in St. Cloud. (All in the 80's and 90's)

1.) The Cars, Met Center. It was many years ago and a special time for me. Pat Spellman & Brian Pieper were there. 2.) The Tragically Hip, State Theater. I was in row two of the orchestra pit. 3.) The Del Fuegos, Georgia Satellites, and Tom Petty with the Heartbreakers, Met Center. 4.) Van Halen, Met Center. I went with “Wolf†Steckman and others. 5.) Cities 97 Concert in the Park, Canterbury. This was a few years ago. The Bo Deans and Bear Naked Ladies were great.

So the BoDeans are decent eh. They're on the Rockfest lineup in Cadott this year. Didn't they do the "Party of Five" theme song? Oh yeah, Megadeth will be there too!

The BoDeans are great...what I remember of them from an afternoon up in Collegeville. It was a rather warm day and the cold malted beverages seemed to be going down easy. The "Party of Five" themsong isn't even one of their top 5.

1) Garth Brooks - '91 2) Roger Waters - '97 3) Jimmy Buffett - '95 4) Willie Nelson - '96 (it was a few years earlier, skeddy) 5) Tool - '02
But honorable mention definitely goes to Tom Kolter and HeyDay, live from Charlie's. The entire band stopped playing in the middle of a song to scamper outside with the rest of us patrons to watch a fight out back. Mint.

I don't think I can name just five but my favorites: Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young at the St.Paul Civic Center in the early 70s. Merle Haggard at WeFest in 85. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Reba all at different times at the State Fair. Trisha Yearwood at Midwest Wireless Center. Tom T. Hall at Mpls Auditorium. T. Texas Tiegs several times at the Octupus Bar and The Boelter Trio (Curt,Gordy,&Tim) anytime they sang "It's Only Make Believe" in public.

Denny - I can't believe you wouldn't mention Dale V. singing "Blue Suede Shoes" at Cozy Corners.
Did Tex and Larry "The Drifter" ever do any duets?

Tex and Larry used to collaborate a little. Tex took some guitar lessons from Larry. Tex taught Larry how to sing "Lucille", and Larry taught Tex how to sing "Uncle Pen."

Oh, I see how you are! Denny, I believe you were in the same shape I was! I think our drinks of choice that evening were "slippery nipples", most of which were bought by you!!! Oh the good old days!! Skeddy, YOU actually remember seeing me? :p

Norton, you are right! How could I possibly forget any of Dale's performances. Larry, the Drifter, was a big influence on Tex and his early performances. Next time you see him ask him to sing you the song "Pooley,Pooley," that the Drifter taught him. That and "Old Rattler" topped the musical charts at the Octopus Bar for several weeks. Kristen K.--you must be mistaken. I'm almost sure I was sipping on Diet Pepsi that night.

Dennis, you silly, silly man! You may have been sipping Diet Pepsi, but I am sure it was mixed with something! If I remember correctly, it was the winter of 1992 and I should have been the one sipping Diet Pepsi and being the "Sober Cab".

Nice list, Matty-O. Yes, '96 was a good year up there. Along w/ the overalls would be the poop story, the chef apron, and the giant w/ the quarter stuck in his forehead.

This is Camel again - I can't log Keith Swenson off my computer. Talk about a virus.
Not in any particular order
1) Metallica/Queensryche - Met Center, 1989, last show on the tour together. Metallica played many a gag on the Mindcrime boys. 2) U2 - Target Center, 2002?, a rock-and-roll gospel. Gave me energy for weeks. 3) Golden Smog - First Avenue, Jayhawks/Soul Asylum/Wilco/Run Westy Run supergroup swapped instruments between most every song. 4) Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - Target Center, 2000ish, to watch Neil and Stephen Stills hash out 35-years of turmoil on their guitars was a sight to behold. Neil carried the show, of course. 5) Sonja Dada - Fine Line, 2000ish. If you can't feel good about life leaving a Sonja Dada performance, you can't feel good. 5)

If Jim Morrison had lived he'd be a republican too. I am haunted by the scene in Dr. Zhivago were the political prisoner in the cattle car shakes his chains and says,"I'm the only free man on this train". You would probably cheer for the Bolshevicks.

This was a fun thread to read. I've been to over 200 concerts, but here goes: 1. Paul McCartney, St.Paul Civic Center, June 1976. My very first concert, age 16, and still the best. 2. John Mellencamp, Richland Auditorium Cleveland, Dec 1987. The Lonesome Jubilee tour. Killer band and killer show. 3. John Fogerty, State Theater Detroit, Nov 2004. How can anyone sound and look this great at age 59?! 4. Moody Blues, St.Paul Civic Center, Oct 1983. Third row center. I love the Moodies and have been to 27 of their shows between 1978 and 2007. 5. The Kinks, State Theater Minneapolis, June 1978. There was a 7PM show and a 10PM, and I went to both. Runners Up: R.E.M. 1989, Neil Young 1992 & 2007, Tracy Chapman 1989, The Replacements 1987, Rolling Stones 1978 & 1994, Crowded House 1991, The Who 1980

No one out there is admitting to touring with the Dead? I was almost 17 when Jerry died, so i just missed that scene. I did manage to catch "The Dead" with Bob Dylan in Somerset, WI in 2003. Their duet of Big River is still vivid in my mind, as is the couple in front of us who got naked and were doing adult things in the middle of the crowd. we all backed away for a while, some things are just not appropriate for a crowd of free-lovin hippies.
I must also mention the craziest music night I've ever had. I saw Bob Dylan and Phil Lesh & Friends at the Target Center, and then I went to Paisley Park to watch Prince play until 6am. Minnesota's two most famous musicians in one night.
How about the top 5 concerts you wished you would have gone to but had better things to do that night like sit at home or passed on tickets because you thought it would never sell out? Anyone else share this problem?

5. Neil Young - Fall Tour w/Ten Men Working Golden Hall, San Diego CA - 10/27/88 Literally stumbled across this CA only mini-tour show while on a walking tour of bars one evening in San Diego. Neil with a horn section was pretty cool. 4. Neil Young - Greendale Tour w/ Crazy Horse Marcus Amphitheatre, Milwaukee WI - 6/19/03 The guy sitting next to me lit up a blunt during the first encore and the yellow jackets wanted to throw me out with him. 3. Neil Young - U.S. Solo Tour Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis - 5/23/99 Was accompanied by one of my favorite guys, Phil Camel. We shot the breeze with Kevin McHale in the bar before the show, who was also going to see Neil. This show was pure. If I had to Groundhog Day a show this would be it. 2. Neil Young - Horde Tour w/ Crazy Horse River's Edge, Somerset WI - 8/1/97 I'm sure it was one of the few NY concerts with a mosh pit. Rain and lightning accompanied him playing "Like a Hurricane". Never seen a guy snap so many guitar strings. Beck rocked out earlier. 1. Yep, Neil - Smell the Horse Tour w/Crazy Horse William & Mary Hall, Williamsburg, VA - 3/1/91 First people in the parking lot that day to tailgate. Ralph, Billy, and Frank (the Horse members)stopped by to chat with us. Oversized props on the set like Rust Never Sleeps. Tough rock 'n roll show to top.
