So far, after 13 games, the Vikings offense has mustered up only 9 passing touchdowns.

You have to go back to 1971 when Gary Cuozzo, Bob Lee, and Norm Snead combined to throw 9 TD's during that season. They only played 14 games back in those days.

Ish.

Currently, Viking wide receivers (excluding the tight end position), have caught only 4 touchdown passes.

You have to go back to 1962 to match that futility, When Jerry Reichow caught 3, and some other receiver guy named Donahue caught one. That was back when they were called "ends", not "receivers". They didn't have these fancy grippy gloves they wear now either. And they probably wore work boots with nails sticking out of the soles for cleats. After the game, they'd take the nails out and wear the work boots to their 2nd jobs.

Bnag - some interesting tidbits there - what immediately comes to mind is the old coach's philosophy - defense wins championships. The 71 team won like 78.5% of the games so take that across a 16 game season and using Henderson math - that's 12 or 13 wins. Granted the defense of today is no Purple Poodle Eaters, especially with the Barr and Harrison Ford out of the line up, but I'd rather watch that then say a Phillip Rivers team that throws a bunch of TD's to wide receivers. Or say a Jay Cutler team that throw a bunch of TD's to wide receivers.

Speaking of Cutler, big bad Bears are in town tomorrow. That should make for a few fights in the stands, hard to argue against the '85 Bears. If it was me I would say to the Chicago guy, you got me there. Anyhow, it will be interesting what Vikings team shows up, the one that got pounded by the Seahawks or the one that had the Morel Victory in Arizona couple Thursdays ago. New coach John Grey Fox is trying to instill his brand on the team so don't expect da Bears to roll over and play dead. If Cutler can throw a couple balls to the Vikings, and assuming the Vikings can catch said balls, I would expect a Vikings win and AP to have about a buck fifty in rushing yards. And no TD's for the Vikings' wide outs. As Al Davis said once, just win baby. (Or was that Davis Love? Or maybe Lovey Smith?) Kind of too bad it wouldn't be like 20 degrees tomorrow and a blizzard. Darn El Need No is kind of wrecking Minnesota's outdoor December football.

Really expect a knuckle buster on Sunday night. The Giants are fighting for their playoff existence, and the Vikings are nearly assured of a playoff birth, so it'll be interesting what kind of effort they put forth. Also, if the Packners lose to the St. Louis Cardinals in the afternoon it means the Vikings can still lose, but then still win the next week at Lameblow Field against the Packners and claim the NFC Central Division banner, which coach Zimmer has said he wants to hang somewhere. What will really come into question is if the starters only play the first couple series and then they put in the B-team so they are healthy for next week? Lots of soft tissue issues that can be healed up with a little rest.

Expect the Vikings to put forth a great effort for the final regular season home match. If the Packners lose then maybe it'll get interesting as we reach to the bench, that coupled with the idea that the Giants are desperate to save their season and you can anticipate that the Giants are going to come out fighting, like backing some sort of mean animal into a corner. The Giants will fight to the end, and a couple late touchdowns will make caution in the wind moving forward but the Vikings hang on 48-20.

Oh yes, interesting game Sunday night, especially now that Giants star receiver Adele Beckham is suspended for a game for going postal last time out and the refs too afraid to kick him out. The NFL sure looks silly after all that unfolded with no one taking control, from the refs, to the veteran players of the Giants and especially the head coach. Hard to imagine the old football coach from Henderson putting up with such selfish and nutball behavior.

Quite the quandary for the Vikings Sunday if the Packers lose. Do they sit Harrison Ford and Crow Barr? Maybe rest some guys by playing 9 guys against the Giants' 11 just to make it fair as Adele isn't playing. I have confidence that Erin Rogers will lead the Pack to victory forcing the Vikings' hand to actually care. I have the Vikings winning Sunday night and the following Sunday at Green Bay. After that they will win at the Redskins while Seattle runs the table making for a NFC championship game against the Seahawks at TCF bank during a January blizzard.

Back to this Sunday, temps should be in the 10 to 15 degree range - oh how fun to watch that? I'm guessing the stands will be half empty or maybe 1/4 blaze orange. The Giants' D line isn't very good so I would expect a Vikings win, assuming the Pack win. If the Pack lose, all bets are off as it really doesn't matter.

This one's for all the Funyons folks.

Vikings vs Packers for the NFC North title. Time to knock 'em off their perch. (not sure why they've been standing on a fish, but they need to be knocked off of it)

Plan the work, work the plan.

Look for Zim Tzu to pull another special blitz package out of his back pocket this game.

Turn it up to 11!

Oh my - Sunday night's game is for all the marbles. Bnag is thinking defense and what kind of blitz packages Zim might have for the injury riddled Packer's O line and I'm thinking when is Norm going to figure out the Vikings should be running more mis-direction with AP as the decoy. Last week's game was the perfect example, Jared McKinnon goes for about 40 on an AP fake mis-direction reverse. (Called back by holding penalty.) I'm thinking flea flicker bomb to Mike Wallace should be the opening play for the Vikings' offense.

As far as who wins Sunday, until the Vikings beat the Packers I'm thinking the Packers win. The Vikings have a way of making Erin look like the second coming of Johnny Unitas, and he might be, but he hasn't looked like that lately. In fact last week I thought Erin was concussed, either that or it is was tears of defeat as a Kleenex was needed. Should be interesting if Sunday is bounce back game for Erin.

Either way it will work out, Vikings lose this Sunday only to go back to Green Bay for a win. (NFL teams can never beat another 3 times in one year - you heard that first here.) Or the Vikings win and play host to the Seahawks - the beauty of that would be a game in below average January temperatures in Minnesota. That would be great advertising for the MN dept. of Tourism! I guess the third option is Vikings lose and Seattle loses (my personal favorite) and a trip to Washington. (or WaRshinton as the old coach would say.) Facing RGIII would be scary though.

BTW - Bnag - I love Funyons, don't get me wrong but TGI Fridays Onion Rings sold at Maynards is the way to go. And it ain't Bob Schnelker's fault. I loooove Alfred Anderson..................

Okay first it's for all the funyuns. Then it's for all the marbles. What about Brent Cheeseburger's famous line "this is for allllll the tostitos"? I do like funyuns too even though they rip the roof of your mouth off like Cap'n Crunch does.

Here we go ladies and gentleman. Oh and cheesehead fans. Confidence is brimming in Norsemen land after two straight blowouts in the cold at home. Even though it was against teams not playing for more than their jobs. Still come on, they're pros!

Things may appear not as rosy in cheeseville after being shellacked at AZ. But until the purple defeats the green in a meaningful game again I'm not going to boast as much as I'd like too. Last one was the Ponder led Vikes win at home to clinch a playoff spot only to have to head back to Lameblow the next week. Joseph Webb didn't stand a chance. Before that you have to go back to '09 when Bert Farve embarrassed his former team twice. Man that was fun.

Playoff scenarios? Throw 'em out the door! To be the best you have to beat the best. Let's win the division and bring a wild card game to the Bank. Seahawks Schmehawks. Scotch Schmotch. I'll have some of that Schmotch!

Vikes-27, Packers-18
SKOL!!!!!!!

I would make snow angels in a patch of sand stickers for a bag of Funyons and a Mr. Pibb right now.

Packer linebacker Dave Matthews has been stat-less for two straight games. No tackles, no sacks, no forced fumbles, nothin'. But he's got cool hair. Doesn't matter what you do in a game as long as you have cool hair.

I'm in John Randle mode.
