It has been very disappointing to see our rare 1917 Reo fire truck sitting outside the past weeks exposed to rain and potential vandalism/theft. Restored in 1992, Henderson's first motorized fire truck is a very important in the history of not only the local dept, but to the entire community. This rare, award winning truck was called a "gem" by the Reo Club of America in one of their publications. There are so many irreplaceable parts on this truck that some unsavory collector could have a field day by stealing and selling them. When the storage shed was built many years ago, it was, in part to serve as a home for the Reo. One retired member told me this morning it "is heart breaking" to see the Reo parked outside. At the very least, it should be tarped. Even though I have been retired from the Dept for 10 years, I am still very proud of that truck. I hope the current members will give this truck the proper storage it deserves.

All of the rain the past few days and this treasure continues to get saturated.

Pretty sad that no one was embarrassed by your first post to do anything about this. My guess is because no one wants to clean out the storage shed. There is way too much "junk" kept in and around that area. Maybe with the funds the fire department is collecting at the hamburger stand on Tuesday nights they could pay someone to organize it. With all the community is doing to bring visitors to our wonderful little town, things like this should be addressed immediately. I do believe this area was the subject of an editorial a few years back and the author of that piece is now a council member. You all know Denny is right to be disappointed about this.
