2014 January 20 St. Thomas News
Masses are scheduled at St. Anne’s Church in Le Sueur at 5:15 pm Saturday and 8:00 AM and 10:30 am Sunday.
Good thoughts and prayers to Art Hoehn. He is dealing with melanoma on the side of his face, he was unaware of having til recently when he returned from the Bahamas. Art is a grandson of Alice Burns, known around here as Grandma Burns or Alice Tim.
Jerry and Peggy Germscheid Cooney have been chosen as the Grand Marshalls for the
2014 St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at Le Center. Margaret “Peggy’s” roots grow deep
here in St. Thomas on the Brown branch of our St. Thomas Tree. Peggy is the
eldest daughter of Francis and Margaret Brown Germscheid, including Peggy, there’s
Bob, Diane, Maurice, Tom and Wayne, who grew up on the farm a few miles south of
St. Thomas, and near the Maurice Brown farm where Peggy’s mother grew up. The Browns are related to everybody around here. Congratulations to Jerry and Peggy. According to John Burns, Father Burns’s dad, the Maurice Brown family pew was the first one on the Blessed Mothers side of the center isle of the St. Thomas Church while he was growing up. John remembers them fondly, his family pew just a couple pews behind, where Kenny and Debbie O’Connell sit now.

Aaron, Deb and Grace Halloran enjoyed some snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at Ney Center on Sunday, during a break in the “polar vortex”. Monday was a lot colder and snow was blowing straight south, parallel with the ground.

The annual St. Thomas Steak Fry gathering is at the Le Center legion on January 25, 2014. Serving is from 5 to 8 pm. Salad bar and shrimp have been added to the menu. Friends, neighbors, anyone and everyone welcome, enjoy a night with St. Thomas's finest. Come early for social hour. See ya there.

Happy Birthday to a couple of St. Thomas’s finest fellows, Ray Connolly, who’ll be 90 on the 25th and Dick O’Connell who’ll be 70 on this 29th of January.

Happy Birthday, John Novotny of the Novotny Brothers Trio, John was born January 14, 1950. Larry and John are now the same age now til March 3. Making connections, John is married to Madonna Novotny, Julie Odenthal’s sister. A popular song Madonna sings is “The Laughing Polka” and she sang it with Larry Novotny at the All You Can Eat Band Reunion in Lonsdale on Sunday. George Korbel played a broom made by Merlin Moore for a bass. The band was wonderful.

Okay, that’s enough cold, enough ice, and enough snow, let’s have spring.
Have a good week, folks.
