2010 April 2 St. Thomas News
An Easter Sunday Mass with Father Burns will be here at St. Thomas at 9 am.
Dean Bohnsack “went peaceably to the Lord with his son, Karl, and daughter Kristine by his side.” Services were held Thursday, March 29th at Redeemer Lutheran Church in the German Settlement. The Bohnsack farm, all 320 acres, was nestled north of Stanley Krenik’s, Leo Savage’s, and south Paul Blaha’s farm. Ralph and Evelyn Bohnsack, Dean’s folks, and his brothers, Gary and Lloyd precede him. Our sympathies to Karl and Kristine and their families, and to his brother, Duane.
Veronica “Ron” and Ray Byrne, from Crystal, (or was it Paul?) enjoyed brunch in Henderson on Sunday with Fran Tiegs and Billy Joe Byrne. Bill and Ray were April Foolin’ and got this writer thoroughly confused. Ray (or Paul) had surgery on his right eye… didn’t seem to slow him down any.
A very special thank you to everyone who contributed and volunteered for the Food for Kidz packaging event. Another successful year... 450 volunteers together as a team packaged 110,000 meals. Great Job to all!
Vangie Burns enjoyed Saturday night at the Barney and Jean Burns home, with Pete and Jenny, Nick and Stacy, Jon and Tami, Noah and Sara, Jenni and Josh. They all enjoyed a ham and turkey supper, and a couple “good games” of Euchre. Vangie was on the winning team both times.
Last week, Luke Retka took a notion and pulled a Dick O’Connell. He hopped on his cycle for a trip to Texas.
The St. Thomas Sportsman Club’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday at 2 pm as well as hot dogs and refreshments.
Sportsman’s Club cleanup day is Saturday, May 19th, alternate rainout date May 26th.
Birthday greetings to Kyle Lueders on April 2nd, to Brigid Doherty Tuck, who turned 37 on April 5th, Jenna Retka turns 20 on April 6th and Kenny O on the 11th of April.
From the Archives: “Among a group of 125 girls to receive their nurse’s caps at Our Lady of Victory Chapel in St. Paul were Louis Bromaghim of Belle Plaine. Patricia Retka, of St. Thomas, and Betty Labin of New Prague.” BPH Mar 28,1952.
Also from the Achives: “Fred Brahs sold his 152 acre farm in Tyrone Township to Gus Meger of Le Center.” BPH Mar 28, 1922
That’s all, folks. Have a wonderful Easter.
