2011 October 24 St. Thomas News
Masses scheduled at St. Thomas are November 5th 5:00 p.m. with Fr. Hessian,
November 12th 5:00 p.m. with Fr. Grafsky
CHRISTMAS DAY MASS at 10:00 AM with Father Burns, who hails from the O’Connell/Burns branch of our St. Thomas Tree
The benefit for Chris Wondra took place at a packed American Legion in Montgomery, last Friday evening. It was wonderful. The chili, gifts and music were fantastic. Chris was present…looking a bit thinner, but looking confident and healthy. Bednar family members and friends worked hard to make the benefit a success, Gary and Judy, brothers Michael and Wesley, Grandma Irene… and even Dan, rolled up sleeves and assisted folks, loading their cars. All are so grateful to family and friends… Love these guys… “No friends like ole friends.”
Another benefit on the horizon: Chris Slack was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer about two months ago. He continues to undergo treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation, on a daily basis. Chris and Tonya have been traveling back and forth to the University of Minnesota, 5 days a week. A Silent Auction and Bake Sale will be included in the event on October 30, 4-7 pm., at the Le Sueur Henderson High School commons area…includes Spaghetti Supper. Chris is a Cub Scout Pack Leader of Pack 328. Chris was a former student of Tom Graham’s and a 1994 classmate of our son, Corey.
Jim and Mary Walker attended a funeral mass for a dear friend in River Falls, Wisconsin on
Saturday afternoon. Later in the day, they attended Mass at St. Thomas and followed by a dinner with friends from St. Thomas at the Union Hill Bar and Grill…Oh, about going out to eat, Mary said, “The only difference between Jim and a canoe is... a canoe tips.” Sunday, the Walkers attended Mass at Holy Redeemer in honor of their great- grandson Jack Rosival's baptism and had a wonderful brunch at Ashley and Tim Rosival's home.
Maxine Holden is a great-grandma for the second time. Erica and Pete Scheffler have a little boy, Holden John Scheffler born on October 15th, weighing 7 pounds, 13 ounces and he’s 21" long.
Vangie Burns is great- grandmother again. Great- granddaughter, the lovely little Miss Chloe Marie, was born to John and Kayla, weighing 5 pounds and 16 ounces and is 19 inches long. Vangie will be great-grandmother again soon. Lindsey Ruhland was the guest- of-honor at a Baby Shower last Friday, held at her home in Le Sueur. Mike and Barb Ruhland are the proud grandparents in this blessed event.
Mankato marathon was held last weekend. Marsha Sullivan, and Brigid Tuck ran the Half Marathon, and Kiki and Kim Byrne were among the 5-K runners.
Kenny O. spent the weekend alone, as Debbie followed an 18 year Blaschko tradition spending Sisters-Weekend Away. This year the Blaschko sisters spent their weekend near Alice Retka’s ole stomping grounds near Spicer, Minnesota, at Dickerson’s Resort on Diamond Lake. Debbie, Christy Gibbs of rural Le Center, Becky Zimmerman of Wabasso, Bobbie Schleeve of rural Le Center, sister-in-law, Barb Blaschko of Lakeville and Susie Mc Millen of Le Center. They enjoyed playing Tripoli, watching movies, and laughing a lot…
Found out Father Hessian’s favorite kolacky is apricot and prune. He says “Man cannot live by bread alone. But, Man could live on kolackies!”
I-rish you a quiet hour in a secret place, where nothing but happiness can find you. Have a good one, folks.

thumbsThanks so much for the update on Christmas Day Mass being held in St Thomas. I wouldn't miss this one. My family spent quite a number of years at Christmas Day mass before we went to Grandma and Grandpa's and Jimmy's for dinner, and this Mass will bring it all back! Wouldn't find anything out without this site! Blessings! Anne (Matejcek/Becker/Byrne)
