I'm just not mentally ready for this yet.

I thought you made predictions in the newspaper?

My prediction was something like Saints 45, Vikings 17. Had I elaborated it might've said "Vikes trail 28-10 at halftime, Favre gets knocked on his butt time after time in the first half and announces his retirement at halftime." Then, after his bruises heal and the Vikings go 3-3 to start the season he'll unretire and decide that maybe he can survive a 10-game season, and his wife will get sick of him constantly slapping her on the backside. "Go play football," she'll say. "Slap some of those guys on the backside."

Stinks to have to be tempering my expectations for the third time in 13 years in the wake of disappointment against the Falcons, Giants (41-dohnut) and Saints. I am going to start whittling away at that ambilacle chord (sp?) so I'm not totally crushed when they move to LA. There has to be a life out there for me somewhere.

That being said, I'm sure I'll be on the edge of my seat, stomping and kicking at every false start, dropped pass and missed tackle, and I'll remind myself at 10:30 p.m. "it's not how you start, but how you finish."

I've changed my mind. Brees will be the one retiring at halftime after the Vikings extend a healthy serving of payback in the first half. Little unnecessary roughness here, little givin' him the business there, little clothes line, little late hit. I think a hockey game might break out in the second half after Brees spends much of the first half picking his teeth and contact lenses from the SuperDome turf after Jared Allen knocks him into week six. But it won't be until late in the first half that Brees finally has had enough, after he takes a kitchen sink across the chest for a five yard loss.

I'm thinking Saints win by 5 points - say 13-18. The point spread went from 4.5 to 6.

What is your season prediction? Usually I cheat and take Dicky Downs's number and use that - I have been right the last two years. (Wait - Dicky has been spot on the last two years.)

I'm thinking we are an 8 - 8 team - but with Brent he is good for an extra 3 wins. Final answer: 11-5.
