The next Eucharistic Celebration at St. Thomas is Saturday, February 28th at 5 pm.

A wonderful jubilee for a wonderful priest! Over 500 guests, including Father’s “younger” sister, Joan Fritchman came from Farmington, sister-in-law, Marilyn Roedel from Bloomington came with his nieces and nephews, Father Kenneth Ludescher attended. He taught at the same seminary with Father Roedel and is a classmate of Father Roger Hessian and Father John Siebenaler. Pictures of the churches Father served at were on display, also pictures of Father at various stages of his life. He could have been little Jackie Cooper’s double. St. Joseph’s Community Hall was a perfect place to host the party and the St. Scholastica’s turkey salad was a hit. The many left over bars and cookies went to the fire victims in Montgomery. For anyone who didn’t make it and still wish to send greetings, Father’s address is Father Richard Roedel, St. Scholastica, 31525 181 Avenue, New Prague, Minnesota 56071.

Mass of Christian Burial for was offered for Mary B. McGillen at St.Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny on Saturday. Mary is the daughter of Ed and Mary Alice. She was very proud of Irish heritage and her Catholic upbringing. Our sympathies to her brothers, John and Pete McGillen and their families.

Oops. Not Camron ... it’s “Camdon” Thomas Halloran.

Bill Meger severely injured his hand at work and was taken to North Memorial on Thursday, February 19th. Bill came home on Saturday. Prayers and good thoughts for his recovery and comfort.

The Jim Walker's attended two classical concerts recently at Orchestral Hall, last Saturday they enjoyed the Danish Composer Carl Nielsen's Fifth Symphony and Swedish Composer Jean Sibelius second Symphony in D major conducted by Osmo Vanska. Those in attendance enjoyed the performance so much that they gave the orchestra a five minute standing ovation. On Thursday they attended a Minnesota Orchestra performance with Osmo conducting and Joshua Bell with his 1713 Stradivarius violin performing Barber's Violin Concerto and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3. The orchestra is leaving on a ten day performing tour in London, Berlin and Vienna.

The Wisconsin trippin’ fellas tried mountain snowmobiling. Luke Retka, Joe Shaughnessy, Greg Traxler and Kurt Hale joined friends for a week of snowmobiling in west Wyoming, south of Yellow Stone. They had a great time. The “scenery was breathtaking”. Luke called it “The perfect trip, perfect weather, perfect snow, great roads, nobody got hurt and no sleds broken.” They want to go back again when most of them turn 50 in a couple years.

Colleen Burns Rohloff was sure surprised with a full house, one week earlier than her 50th birthday at The Bar in Le Sueur. Colleen’s three sons, Chad, Mitch, Michael and her daughter, Kelly were the first to greet her. Dennis and Jill Rohloff enjoyed pouring coffee and Jill’s brother, Ed and Brenda Pesh enjoyed hosting. Colleen’s birthday is February 27th.

Mark your calendars. Monday, April 20 is Kids Against Hunger at KC Hall New Prague.
Becky Neisen does a great job is coordinating this event. This is a fun gathering for a great cause...and more later.

Well, that’s all that’s new in St. Thomas...except for our new little granddaughter...
Anna Grace was born to Pat and Jodi Baumgard of Buffalo on Monday, February 23rd,
weighing in at 6 pounds and 14 ounces... has a mega amount of beautiful, thick, golden brown hair. She is our sixth grandchild ... and the ninth great-grandchild for Jack and Vangie Burns...which makes Anna and her big brother, Andy ...two generations from St. Thomas. She’s beautiful!

Have a great week, folks.

What was the jubilee for, 40 or 50 years ordained?

Fr Roedel was the first priest I ever remember growing up with at good old St. Anne's. I think he was the priest for the whole time our class was going through grade school. Good man, that guy. He was always very good to us kids. He was pretty understanding in the pennance booth, too. Of course back then the only thing I would admit to doing wrong was fighting with my little brothers!
