A huge crowd attended Greg Vlasak’s Final Celebrations this weekend. Many from the community of St. Thomas showed up in second and third generations. Greg is two generations from here. Moving moments were a granddaughter’s tearful tribute to Grandpa, Melinda’s beautiful eulogy of their 42 years together, and their son, Adam‘s surprise to Mom. He showed up at the funeral in full military dress. During Military Rights at the cemetery, he presented the triangle-folded United States flag to his Mom. Greg rests next to his Mom and Dad in the family plot at St. John’s near Montgomery. Interesting to note: Greg passed away on March 23, 2022. The same date, six years before, another good friend including Greg’s, we all loved... James “Sam” Prochaska left us.

“Nature’s first green is gold, her harvest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower, but only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf, so Eden sank to grief.
So dawn go down today, Nothing gold can stay.”
