I wanted to update you all on the progress that the anti-smoking law in Calgary has had. We have actually seen a huge business increase in local restaurants/pubs because of the new policy that became effective January 2007. Calgarians are visiting local venues that they had never patronized before because they know there will not be a smoky environment for them or their children. Our neighbourhood pub, the Barking Frog, has seen an overwhelming amount of business since January 2007, a business that in the past has changed ownership at least four times. After speaking with the pub's owner, he has commented that the new ban has not deterred former customers (smokers) from coming, they just go outside. Just wanted to share with you the benefits of the smoke-free bans.

WHY IS THIS NOT LEFT UP TO THE BAR OWNER, IF THEY WANT THERE PLACE OF BUSINESS SMOKING OR NON SMOKING?????????????????????
YOU as a non-smoker have the choice if you to go into the place or places that allow smoking. If you smoke, chances are you are going to have a few cocktails with it, as most know they go hand in hand, and if i remember right that is part of a bar. THAT IS THE CIGARETTE SMOKE. Should it not be up to the owner of that place if they want to allow smoking??? Soon you will not be able to smoke in your own home!!!!

Just received the Smoke Free packet from Sibley County Health.

"Beginning Oct. 1, 2007, no smoking is allowed in bars, restaurants private clubs or other workplaces. The law contains some minor exemptions: outdoor patios, scientific studies, theatrical productions traditional Native American ceremonies, hotel and motel guest-rooms, tobacco shops, a Washington County disabled veterans camp, locked psychiatric units, family farms that employ no more that 2 non-family persons, private homes, private cars, heavy commercial vehicles, construction equipment, farm vehicles and certain resident nursing home rooms, Local governments continue to have the authority to implement stricter regulations."

How wide of a range does "Farm Vehicles" fall under? Tractors, horses, anything on wheels that looks like it came off my farm?

Being a "True Hendersonite", I feel a field trip is in order. What time can Norton meet us there?

On a brighter side to the smoking ban, I haven't had a cigarette in about a month now. If I smoked, it was usually in a bar. Sometimes two at a time. But not anymore. Sometimes Koester would ask me who won the smoking contest last weekend. In pure satire ofcourse.
