"Winter Kill"

Workers scrambled to clear 12 inches of snow off
TCF Field prior to yesterday's Gophers tilt with Nebraska. Maybe they should've left the snow, as the Gophers could've used some help in slowing a Cornhuskers ground attack that amassed 424 rushing yards in a 46-12 victory in front of 24,454 shivering fans.

Members of the Gophers offense huddled tightly to provide shelter from the brisk, northwest November winds that dipped windchills well past 20 below zero. The Gophers spread offense struggled to hold onto the frozen pigskin, fumbling four times and completing just 12-of-36 pass attempts. Three Gophers receivers suffered broken fingers and many fell victim to frost bite.

"In for the Kill"

The Gophers mens football team scored a 36-18 victory over Indiana Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium, and players afterwards said they were motivated by the courage displayed by coach Jerry Kill, who kept the team focused and prepared all week despite a painful ear infection.

"Coach was battlin' it all week," said junior lineguard Lance Shuggs. "Sometimes he would just wince in pain, man, he said swallowin' was real hard and stuff. We all decided 'bout Tuesday or so that we were in it for the Kill, you know, like Coach Kill. It kinda became our theme for the week. We even had t-shirts made at Evolution."

58 to zip - holy cow. The spread for the Wisconsin game might be 40.

Do they really need to do a half back option? That seemed overKILL to me.

What a horrible game today against Northwestern. In the first half the defense didn't even touch the running back on numerous plays. Starting QB gets hurt and comes off the field unexpectedly. One would think they should be coached to fall down so the backup and coaches have time to react.

Lots of dumb play calls, especially the 4th and goal at the end of the game where the QB looks like he threw it away. High percentage plays are needed down there not fades.

Fire Kill.

Big win today for the Gophers as they are now bowl eligible. It's a fun team to watch mature with the Mankato kid at QB, who is a true freshman. The big running back is a sophomore and the O-line is all freshman and sophomores. Big things are yet to come for the team.

This will be the first time in years that the Gophers will be going to a bowl game. Hopefully they sign Kill to a big extension before one of the West Coast colleges snap him up. Kill is really doing an outstanding job.

What a great moral victory by the Gophers last night - truly outstanding. The Gophers, who were double digit underdogs, held their own against a top flight team. It's good to see a disciplined team -as Kill said about the Barker blowup 'I run a disciplined program' - just glad the Gophers didn't take any dumb penalties against Tech.

I'm really looking forward to next year's season. Including moral victories I'm thinking the Gophers should win 10 games or so.

Blowing a 7-point lead with 70 seconds to play and to lose in regulation. Leaves me wondering which is the more appropriate response -

"The Tradition Continues."

or

"They are who we thought they were."
