NIT = bad basketball. Gophers continue to win in spite of themselves. Love the offense in the final four minutes. Put four guys on the wing, have the point guard dribble the shot clock down to 7 seconds, then take on four defenders in a reckless drive to the basket. My favorite play of the game was when the Gophers are up five with about 25 seconds left, Warshington throws a pass to the wing, the Gophers defender goes flying into the passing lane for the steal, but gets their late. He continues to fly out of bounds, the Warshington guard catches the pass, takes four seconds to set his feet and line up the rim and calmly drains the uncontested three pointer. I'm am not the great basketball mind that Skeddy and Norton are, but would another approach be to play good, sound defense with a five-point lead and not take chances to give your foe a good, clear look at the basket?

These teams have clearly demonstrated why they are not in the NCAA tournament. They had to replace the rims after Tuesday night's games because of all the bricks the four teams threw up.

Ski U Mah. And no, I'm not a "Sayer of Nay", I am a realist. It's fun, but it's not good basketball. I don't think Tom Izzoo or Bob Ryan are losing any sleep for fear of the Gophers dominating the Big 10 next year.

"All the negativity in this town sucks"~~~Rick Pitino

Considering we live in a state of loserville let's just enjoy the fact that a team has made it to a title game. Whether that's the NIT or not. Just being a realist that's all.

Pre-game at Koester's at noon today. Tipoff at 6pm. Go Gophers!!!

Join us at Skeddy's for pre-game face painting starting at 3 p.m. Members of the Community Band will be on hand to play the Rouser and help us spell "M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A" at 5:15, and some local dressed in a Gopher suit and posing as "Goldie" will be handing out candy corn to all the children at 5:45.

Other activies -

nerf hoop free throw shooting contest
Ray Christensen sound alike contest
Gophers collectables and other Gophers stuff on display, featuring a Goldie Bobble Head, a long-sleeve Gophers Football T-Shirt, a wrist band that was worn while pretending to be Kevin McHale during a nerf basketball game, a pair of sweatsocks worn through the heels from hours of nerf basketball while listening to Ray Christensen and the Gophers in the early 1980s, a metal rimmed nerf basketball hoop, a game worn nerf basketball, a bracket from the 1982 NCAA tournament complete with the results of having played the entire tournament on a nerf basketball hoop, won by the Gophers, a pair of six-sided dice used when the Twins won the dice baseball championship in 1981.

A VCR cassette recording of the Gophers victory over Georgetown in the 1993 NIT Championship will be playing repeatedly in the garage starting at 2 p.m. Skeddy had slowpitch softball practice that night and had to tape the game.

I surrender. Camel wins. That was too good.
It would be fun to play nerf hoops in the driveway though. Have to be on a real calm day though. Imagine driving by someone's house and you look over and two adults are playing one on one nerf basketball in the driveway. That would be funny.

Nothing to pass to yourself off of in the driveway. Would really turn it into a 1-on-1 game. Used to love the give and go ... throw the ball to the sidewall, buzz by your defender to the hoop for the return pass and SLAM!! If we played at your garage we could do layup drills before the game and keep running underneath the basket instead of having to worry about slamming into the door. We had that at the New Rome place in the green carpet room, 'member?

Oh yeah that was a perfect nerf hoops court. Equal distance on each baseline too. Plus the stereo right there. Good sized windows for lighting. Quick access to the kool aid in the fridge too.

Wow!!!! That was impressive! Tubby had another Glen Mason moment tonight! He really had the boys ready to take on the Cardinal and out coached them. Looking forward to the 2012-13 season. Hoping that Mayan calendar puts them out of their misery early.

Close game tonight. IF it wasn't for the refs calling the cheap fouls and some lucky shots by the Cardinal the gophers win. Nice run by the boys. Once Tubby gets that practice facility they will be going undefeated. Nice season by Tubby.

Give Tubby the extension!
