NIT = bad basketball. Gophers continue to win in spite of themselves. Love the offense in the final four minutes. Put four guys on the wing, have the point guard dribble the shot clock down to 7 seconds, then take on four defenders in a reckless drive to the basket. My favorite play of the game was when the Gophers are up five with about 25 seconds left, Warshington throws a pass to the wing, the Gophers defender goes flying into the passing lane for the steal, but gets their late. He continues to fly out of bounds, the Warshington guard catches the pass, takes four seconds to set his feet and line up the rim and calmly drains the uncontested three pointer. I'm am not the great basketball mind that Skeddy and Norton are, but would another approach be to play good, sound defense with a five-point lead and not take chances to give your foe a good, clear look at the basket?
These teams have clearly demonstrated why they are not in the NCAA tournament. They had to replace the rims after Tuesday night's games because of all the bricks the four teams threw up.
Ski U Mah. And no, I'm not a "Sayer of Nay", I am a realist. It's fun, but it's not good basketball. I don't think Tom Izzoo or Bob Ryan are losing any sleep for fear of the Gophers dominating the Big 10 next year.
