Within the last few days, the MN River has cracked the top 5 all time record low (river level).

Wow, weren't we in flood stage this time last year?

What was the water level a couple summers ago when it got really low? Do you have a list of the top 5? Or a link?

OK, I knew about that site, but I dont think the record lows have been updated for a few years. If I remember right, a few years back was lower then it was right now. But they havent added it to the record lows.

I know one thing, these crazy fluctuations in water levels sure makes fishing the river a challenge.

The river level shows 712.75, according to the web page - that's the lowest ever minus the 701.00 recording from 01-01-1950. Is it possible the record is related to too much revelry the night prior? Just thinking it wasn't read by a computer back then.

I think the river back then had a deeper channel running through the middle, and was dredged years before that to keep a channel open for traffic. As of right now, most of the areas in the river are less then 2 feet deep, except your deeper holes. There is not a chance it will ever drop another 10 feet. Today, the silt has filled in the main channel with many feet of sand, and has widened more then double in most areas.

Is that the same as "we need more cowbell"?

Two feet deep? That's some good depth for tubing. I'm thinking the T-shirt shack guys should also take on a river outfitting business, renting out canoes and tubes. Bikes too, once the the paved bike trail gets completed.

2 feet deep, and filled with trees. There are places that are barely navigable with a canoe. Sounds/looks pretty dangerous to be tubing through it. Plus we dont need all the garbage left in the water from everyone. I pick up enough garbage from everyone else the way it is now. Not to mention we have a certain contest going on this weekend, that participants love to leave a ton of garbage all throughout the river banks. It will take me a few trips to pick all that up.
