It appears that there is virtually nothing going on for Heritage Days on Sunday. That is disappointing since I have already made other plans for Saturday and can't change. Is there some way that this information could be posted a few months ahead of time so I could have made plans to attend the Heritage Days on Saturday?

I thought Heritage "Day" was always just a one day event and was held on Saturday. I could be wrong though.

Carol etal;

As chair of the Chamber committee that organizes Heritage Day(s), we apologize for the seemingly one day event schedule. Over the past three years we have moved more toward a one-day event as Sunday was poorly attended and we had some difficulty in getting volunteers for two days. As you know, Henderson has a lot of celebrations and events and we simply run out of human resources sometimes.

Saturday evening, September 24, bronze bust unveiling and Alison England performance
An evening to be remembered! Kicking off at 5:30 p.m., when we unveil the bronze bust statue of Henderson founder, Joe Brown. The artist/sculptor, Tom Page, will be there to talk about his statue and help pull the cord for the unveiling. Joe is one handsome dude in bronze! Next, a buffet dinner at 7:00 p.m. Followed by a dinner theater performance at 8 p.m., by Soprano Alison England. "You could describe me as a Carol Burnett with an operatic voice," she says. She has performed on telelvision, on Broadway, at the Kennedy and Lincoln Centers, and on stages across Europe. It is only because of a close personal friendship with Hendersonite Kati Powell that she will be here to help us with this fundraiser. Yes, it is a fundraiser to help finish off the total Joe Brown bust statue project.

Tickets are $40/person ($17.00 tax deductible). All of this is happening on stage at the Minnesota New County School in Henderson. 159 years ago (in 1852) Joe Brown and a few of his friends tied their boat to a tree on the banks of the river (one block east of the New Country School) and proceeded to lay out the town we now know as Henderson. Here we are today commemorating that event with a bronze of Joe.

We invite you to come and be part of history in the making. Call Lon Berberich at 507-248-3234 for tickets.

It's a don't-want-to-miss-it evening.

Listen to the Voice of Alison England

Many on Chatter are aware that Alison England, a renowned soprano/musical theater performer will be in Henderson on September 24, for a Brown Society Fundraiser - all part of the Joe Brown bronze statue unveiling.

You may not have ever heard her sing, however, and you can do that by going to Google, or Bing, or Yahoo, and entering: www.alisonengland.com Then click on VIDEOS where you'll find a number of her vocal selections.

Ms. England's accompanist, Dr. Amy Wilson, is from Trinidad, Colorado, where England is also an interim professor of music at Trinidad College. Amy Wilson is an accomplished pianist in her own right. Actually, the Dr. part in this instance stands for dentist. She has performed with the Colorado Springs Orchestra and the Southern Colorado Chorale Society. She's also a private pilot but, no, she's arriving in Minnesota on a commercial flight.

A big night. And...there's still tickets available. The $40 ticket is all part of a fundraiser to complete the statue of Joe Brown that will be located on the grounds of the Community Square in a formal dedication to be held next year. On September 24, however, you'll get to see the finished bronze statue. He's one handsome dude in bronze!

Reserving your ticket is as easy as calling Lon Berberich at (507) 248-3234, then pick up your ticket when you arrive at the MN New Country School. Or, just stop by the City Offices if you're in town. Statue viewing starts at 5:30 p.m., where you can visit with sculptor Tom Page. Dinner is at 7:00 p.m. Alison England's show, "Songs I Love to Sing and Stories I love to Tell," is at 8:00 p.m.

We hope to see you there.
