I believe our black walnut tree is going to have a bumper crock as it did 2 years ago. I'm wondering if anybody would like them as I do nothing with them but try to keep my dogs from eating them and ringing up another vet bill. Two years ago I felt like Sisyphus because there were so many. If anyone wants them you're welcome to them.

My understanding is they're quite tasty if they're harvested early enough. If anyone else is dreading the mess maybe we would have enough to interest someone to come to town and harvest them.
Are you sure they aren't Butternuts from a Butternut tree? Butternut trees are also referred to as White Walnut trees. I'm thinking your walnuts are white which technically makes them a Butternut.
If they are Black Walnut, the trees are quite valuable.

I was told, when we moved into the parsonage, that it was a balck walnut but I've never confirmed that. My understanding is the wood is valuable. The nuts are too, if they are harvested before the hull starts to get moldy and black.
Joe, yours are black walnuts. I saw them when we took care of your pooches. We have about 6 trees in our yard and they DO make a mess.... if you run out, we have plenty to share too! They aren't so good for the lawnmower blade!!
