As of right now, the silt needs to be cleaned off of the top of the parking lot, otherwise there will just be trenches throughout the entire lot. On the east end of the lot, next to the river, the mud piles are blocking the water drain for the lot, as the parking lot is slanted to drain the water to the east end of the lot, then follow the landing to the river. I think the lot cleaning could easily be done with a skid loader.

On a rising river, the landing wouldnt need to be cleaned out(if the landing has been cleaned out to be useable prior to the rising water), but when the river drops, the silt needs to be cleaned out that was deposited from the higher water.

Since the water is high now, one good thourough initial cleaning would be best, and as the water drops rapidly, the landing will need to be cleaned out regularly. Once the water levels off, and stabilizes to normal summer levels, the landing wouldnt need much cleaning at all. But IF and when the water does drop, it would need to be cleaned out regularly while it drops fast.

As for forming an Adopt a Boat Landing group, I would do whatever I could to help out. What has to be done to form such a thing, and what does it consist of?

I will contact Scott Hornaman and Bob Kaul and they will try to address your concerns and provide information on forming a group.

Looks like the river is going to come back up a couple feet - jeepers.

Well it looks as though Ol Mother Nature has no want for the Henderson landing to be open this year mad

The parking lot is back under water again, with more rain in the forecast.

Just wondering, if we came up with something on cleaning the landing out? The lot is rather routed up from all the mud, with trenches about a foot deep.

Pretty much what was discussed earlier in the post. The DNR will do it if and when they are available; Scott will do what he can with City of Henderson equipment on a limited basis, Orangy has a limited budget he can help out with and hopefully local volunteer efforts can fill any gaps when they can. You will have to contact Scott or Organy to see if they have anything scheduled or call Bob Kaul at the DNR Office in New Ulm.

I know this year has been far from ideal for river fishing, and the Henderson boat landing hasnt seen much time above water. So I have taken a back seat to the needed cleanings and such. But I would like to find a long term solution for the cleanings of the landing. Something that would be done on an as needed basis in the future. I dont know what we would have to do to make something like this happen? I would be more then happy to help set something up, or do some leg wok setting it up.

On a side note, I dont know if anyone was aware, but the MN DNR paid $25,000 to clean out the Belle Plaine boat landing one time, prior to the Belle Plaine cat fishing contest last week. To top it all off, the water dropped a couple feet from last week when they cleaned it out, and it is already un-useable crazy

Maybe you should contact your legislators, to see about getting funds.

To my understanding, the Belle Plaine boat landing is state owned, and the Henderson boat landing is owned by the City of Henderson. So I am not sure that by contacting my legislator will help.

Coming into town yesterday it looked like the boat landing had been worked on. Maybe it was just the parking area.
