I am a frequent drive of the road, but not a Sibley County resident. I do appreciate the county engineer's explanations, but some of his comments were inappropriate and hurtful. I'm not sure how long he's been with the county, but he should know that many of the people posting here are life-long residents of the area and have seen many floods and probably have a lot of experience driving safely through flooded areas.
bsorensen's point about RR road is excellent. I've been driving my family on that road (yes, yes, I know it's not the official detour) and have been met with teenagers going 60 mph and nearly careening off the road due to speed and not being careful. Jeez, I must be getting older because I'm talking about the damn teenagers....
People, thank you all for being engaged citizens. This is how it works, you can't just sit and complain, you have to call your officials and be heard (I particularly like TG's activism). If you are one for less government in your lives(we all are in varying degrees), let the citizens take on some responsibility for their own lives by choosing to drive carefully. And for those who wanted change in the last election, this is what you get when you vote in newbies and stir the pot - you might not like what you get. But many times the oldies are set in their ways and won't listen to folks. so what the hell do we do?
