Stop by and say hello to Joe! Brown, that is. Tom Page (the sculptor) and the writer will be in Henderson on Saturday, October 9, for the JRB Society annual meeting. Tom has sculpted a bust model of Joe Brown that will eventually be cast in bronze and erected on the grounds of the Community Square.

Tom and I will be at the Bittersweet about 11 a.m. Saturday morning if you want to stop by and say hello. The model will be on display on the first floor of the Community Building during the Brown Society meeting. Later, it will be exhibited in different places around town.

Never met a real life sculptor? Here's your chance.

Joe Brown in three-dimension. Folks got their first-ever look at Joe from the front, side and back when sculptor Tom Page brought his cold-cast Brown bust statue to town last week. A cold-cast is early version, made of resin, of what the final bronze statue will look like. Brown in 3-D is an impressive figure. In the weeks ahead Joe will be on display in different businesses around town. Keep an eye out for him.

In a separate move we reduced the price of "Growing Up In HENDERSON: One More Time" to $15.00. We want the price to be well within everyone's reach. It's on sale in various businesses in town, and, of course, at the Joseph R. Brown Center.

There are over 60 Henderson stories in the book, including five in the Epilogue about what Henderson might be like in 2035. We thank Keith Swenson, Doug Thomas, James Brenno, Keely Helgason and Jeff and Lisa Steinborn for contributing to the epilogue. All proceeds from the book are going to the Statue Fund.

Check out the website: www.growingupinhenderson.com The book can also be purchased there, and you can make a contribution to the Statue Fund.

We thank you for your support.

Hmmmmm. Did the just-passing October storm, with record-setting barometric lows, remind you of the alleged October storm of 1919, and the "Account of the curious events at DEVIL'S JUMP-OFF"? Now THAT was a storm! Doc (Duclos) Win Working and the boys from Henderson Hook & Ladder No. 1, had quite a time steering the old 1917 Reo through the snowy, white-out night on their way to the Devil's Jump-Off. The story, of course, is about the curious events that were taking place out at the Jump-Off. I wonder what the barometric reading was that night?

Only a few copies of the Devil's Jump-Off book remain. When they're gone, Poof! No more. You can still get one online at www.growingupinhenderson.com for only $12.00. And the twelve bucks goes right to the Joseph R. Brown Society. You get an interesting book AND help the Brown Society. Now that's a win-win.

My latest book, "Growing Up In Henderson: One More Time," is also available online, as well as at a number of businesses around town. Now just $15.00, all of the proceeds go the Joe Brown bust statue fund.

Stock up now for fireside winter reading. Tales about Henderson you probably never knew.

The cold-cast replica of the Joe Brown bust statue is now being exhibited in businesses along Main Street. Watch for it.

Your contributions to the Statue Fund are important and appreciated. Thank you.
