In talking to the DNR they would like us to keep it closed depending on the weather until at least later in the week. Most of the materials on the site while looking dry are very silty and mucky. Depending on what happens with the weather Tuesday/Wednesday the DNR reps told Scott they plan to come over later this week to try and clean up the site. The forecast for Tuesday/Wednesday does call for potential rain/hail/tornados in the Minnesota River basin so that could change.

I appreciate the time you put into this, so we can use the landing. I am sure it is somewhat of a pain to stay up on. I have been trying not to bug you this year with it much.

As for the rising water, as long as it doesnt come back out of the banks, it shouldnt effect the landing much. The receding water is when the landing will need to be cleaned out often. I will try to hold off a few more days, but I would appreciate if it could get done sooner then later.

I have many other people that ask me about the conditions of the landings in our area, and I just try to keep them up to date.

I hate to say it, but the river has dropped a few feet, and the landing needs to be cleaned out again, well at least touched up. It was a little tricky loading the boat last night.

The landing really needs to be cleaned out, there is about 2-3 feet of mud, and it is practically unusable. I needed to use 4x4 to get the boat into the river tonight.

I realize the City doesnt have the best equipment to clean the landing out, and I realize they are trying, but basically there is a wall of sand about 3 feet in the water, and the trailer will hit it like a brick wall, and is not usable at all. I backed my boat into it, and busted off my transducer tonight.

I hope this isnt going to be like this forever. Because as much of a pain it seems I am, it is more of a pain to not be able to load your boat after out fishing, and have to call someone to bring your truck and trailer to Lesueur to load it, or for a couple people that have traveled close to 100 miles, to find out they couldnt land their boat here.

Are there others experiencing this problem? Maybe several of you regular users should chip in and give Orangy a couple hundred bucks to check it every couple days. Is it a city maintained landing or a DNR one?

To my understanding the City has been responsible for the landing, I dont know if they need to be?

The landing if cleaned out right, should only need to be cleaned out when the water drops. If the water stays at a steady level, or is on the rise, there is no need to clean it. Maybe a touch up every couple weeks. I know this hasn't been an average year as for the river levels, and I realize the City doesnt have the money to hire Orangy, but that doesnt mean we should close the landing down, or just leave it non usable does it? It is one of a few things that draws people to our little town!

It may seem I am the only one griping about it, but I get a lot of people asking me about it, then I just ask on here, somewhat the middle man on some of it. The Mn River landing in Henderson, was one of the best landings from south of Jordan, to Mankato, on most years there would be 10 or more trucks and trailers parked down there pretty much from May til September. Now, everyone is going else where.

I would be more then glad to help out in any way I could, if I had the equipment to clean it out, I would. Next year, I plan on having a fishing contest out of Henderson (already approved by the DNR, and the Mayor of Henderson), that I will hold back a certain amount to help fund cleaning the landing. I have brought up to a local organization if they would sponsor the cleaning of the landing, they said they would look into it next year. So, short of throwing my minimal funds into cleaning it out, I am trying.

I have had someone ask me if they can bring in some equipment of their own and clean it out, I told them I didnt know how that would work, if they would get into trouble for cleaning out a public landing? Anyone know?
