Welcome to“Henderson Hummingbird Hurrah” a celebration of the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird.

Event LINKS Below

In the last fifteen years the Henderson, Minnesota area has experienced a steady increase in the summer breeding population of the Ruby-throated hummingbirds, as well as the number using this area along the Minnesota River Flyway as a pre-migration feeding station. The Ruby-throated hummingbird is the only species of hummingbird that breeds in eastern North America. They winter in Central America, with many flying non-stop 500 miles across the Gulf of Mexico.

To recognize this unprecedented population increase along the Minnesota River the Henderson Chamber of Commerce and Audubon Minnesota created this Hurrah to draw attention to the phenomenon. In August of 2008, based on the amount of sugar water consumed, an estimated 250 hummingbirds were using one yard in Henderson. While impossible to count all these at one time there were 87 hummingbirds counted at one time so there will be plenty of hummers to see and photograph these beautiful birds and the flowers they use.
